Funded (and then some) through PledgeMusic, Casualties Of Cool is the latest album by the inimitable Devin Townsend, featuring the vocals and guitar of Ché Aimee Dorval and the drums of Morgan Ågren. It's a concept album "about a traveller, floating through space and time, who, when hearing a beautiful woman's voice, is lured to a hostile, sentient planet".
In contrast to much of Devin's previous output, Casualties is a pretty quiet record with a healthy dose of country throughout, but it still manages to sound huge with its endlessly interesting and atmospheric arrangements of woodwinds, strings, choirs, Kat Epple's captivating flute playing, and a healthy splash of Mr. Townsend's production genius.
I usually try to avoid putting unofficial YouTube videos of new songs on MIAT, but The Bridge is way too good not to share. One of the most downright colossal tunes the man has ever produced.
