Friday Thing: Billy The Kid - Horseshoes & Hand Grenades

I first heard Billy the Kid on YouTube doing an acoustic cover of There's Only One Hell by The Wildhearts, and subsequently an acoustic cover of Lonely, Cryin', Only by Therapy?. Seeing as she seemed to have a habit of covering my favourite songs, I figured it would be an idea to keep an eye on her future musical ventures.

It was a good plan, Her new album Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, released at the start of this week, is her forth in total and features 13 new tracks adeptly produced by the prolific Frank Turner.

Beautifully written pop melodies, an endlessly sweet voice, and sleekly organic arrangements all add up to a seriously gratifying record. The songs span all colours of the rainbow, from straight-up rock to country-tinged acoustic ballads, and the versatility on display paints Billy in a brilliant light.

Recommend you give this album a spin; a talented songwriter at her best.
